The emotions of children are tended to by caring teachers. When a child is feeling sad, a teacher will be there to listen. On the other hand, when a child wants to share exciting news he will be heard.
A child who understands his/her own feelings is powerful. At Elements Academy, we help the children label their emotions from an early age by doing things such as asking the infant what she is happy about when she is smiling and cooing. When a toddler is crying, we ask him if he is angry because someone took his toy and then work towards a solution. For older children, the teachers are interactive and present to help with the guidance of emotions. Children who understand their own emotions are more likely to have empathy for others.
